Non-Diet- and HAES-Aligned Counsellor

Liz is a fellow non-diet and HAES-aligned professional with a familiar story of being disconnected from body and being stuck in a cycle of perfectionism, control, dieting, bingeing, emotional eating, people-pleasing and self-help addiction.

Fast forward a few years and Liz is free from dieting, has a great relationship with food  and movement and moves and eats intuitively. Liz brings her own lived experience as well as her professional experience as a coach and counsellor into her sessions. It's not a one size fits all approach and will be carefully catered to your unique needs.

Non-diet and HAES-aligned Nutritionist (BHSc NutDMed)

Nina's passion lies in helping people form a truly happy and healthy relationship with food. With lived experience and a special interest in disordered eating, Nina believes that your relationship with food is in fact more important than the food you eat. She looks beyond what you eat, to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours around food. She's also passionate about helping those who experience anxiety, stress and other co-existing health concerns.

By taking a holistic and individualised approach, Nina will listen to you and your unique story; help you let go of the diet mentality; find a way of eating that truly works for you; reconnect with food and yourself in a loving joyful way; and ultimately find your happy place with food, your body and yourself.

Art Therapist & Counsellor

Kirthana Selvaraj, is a passionate and dedicated Queer, Art Therapist (AThR) and Counsellor (ACA). One of her greatest loves is Art, having completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at UNSW Art & Design, she learned to cultivate a critical social justice lens as she navigated systems of oppression and otherness, while using art as both a methodology and tool for healing and resistance.

Kirthana has a Masters of Art Therapy at Western Sydney University, where her area of research interest was and is based on the intersections of LGBTQIA+ identity and migrant cultures, and the need for progressive and institutional shifts to better hold and support these marginalised populations.

She Works with individuals navigating racial trauma; people from diverse cultural backgrounds; LGBTQIA+ people; people with diverse bodies and navigating body-related difficulties; people experiencing anxiety, depression or loneliness; and those wanting to learn about radical self-care.

Her approach to therapy is deeply embedded in an anti-racist, anti-fatphobic, anti-misogynistic and anti-ableist philosophy. Kirthana takes into consideration all of a person’s intersecting identities and experiences.

When doing art therapy with Kirthana, you don’t need to have experience with art making or be a “good” artist. In fact, you don’t need any experience at all - art therapy is about the process and meaning, not the product. It allows you to explore, use your imagination, use metaphor and symbolism to create a deeper understanding of your experiences.

Thinking in Colours

HAES® and Fat-Positive Counsellor

"I am a counsellor with a strong passion for fat positivity, social justice and trauma-informed counselling approaches.

When thinking about your body becomes more than just a preoccupation, when it's constantly eating away at your thoughts and you're having trouble finding anything positive to say about yourself - that is a sign that you might benefit from some support around your body image. You deserve not only to have your 'mental real estate' freed up from negative body thoughts, but to be supported in finding all the ways you and your body can exist together on the same team.

I'm thrilled that Make Space Counselling has a home at Haven - and all members are able to access concession pricing for counselling sessions.
